Casualties of Sri Lanka’s conflict


“”” The recent surge in fighting in Sri Lanka’s civil war is taking a heavy toll on the country’s civilian population. The Red Cross says more than two hundred people were killed and three hundred wounded in the first two months of this year alone, many of them children. Bomb attacks have become more frequent since the collapse of a ceasefire in January between the government and Tamil Tiger rebels. One of the worst was a bus bomb which claimed 22 lives. “””

“”” Recentele violente din Sri Lanka lasa semne si cicatrici adanci in populatia civila. Crucea Rosie sustine ca peste 200 de oameni au fost ucisi si peste 300 raniti in primele doua luni ale acestui an.Majoritatea acestora fiind copii.

Atacurile cu bomba au devenit mai frecvente de cand procesul de incetare a focului dintre guvern si rebelii Tamil Tigers a esuat in luna Ianuarie.Unul dintre cele mai grave astfel de evenimente a fost explozia unei bombe intr-un autobuz ,in care si-au pierdut viata 22 de persoane. “””
